Happy Holiday Tunes | Whitney Nichole Holiday Singles Portrait Photoshoot | San Francisco Music Photography

Whitney Nichole Announces The Release Of Two Holiday Singles, and Niall David Photography & Design by Bianca were there to help make the imagery shine. Read the Press Release from Red Boot Publicity:

San Francisco singer/songwriter Whitney Nichole has announced the release of two holiday singles that are both naughty and nice. First is her original arrangement of “Silent Night,” brought to life with the simple yet incredibly smooth piano stylings of producer Adam Rossi, combined with Whitney’s warm and soaring vocals. The second single, “Pass Me a Drink (It’s Christmas),” is a quirky and sarcastic jazz throwback, and Whitney’s nod to the sounds of the Andrews Sisters with a modern lyrical twist. “I wrote this song to go out to everyone whose holidays can sometimes be less than jolly,” says Whitney. “Cheers!” Both songs are now available on iTunes, CD Baby and Bandcamp.

Music Blog ‘The Noise Beneath the Apple’ gave her holiday songs an INCREDIBLE review! Here’s a little of what they had to say,

“Think Amy Sedaris’ sardonic wit, Eva Cassidy’s flawless voice and Ingrid Michaelson’s pop charm; and you might conjure up a sound byte of what San Francisco Songstress, Whitney Nichole can deliver…”

Dirty Cello | Band Portraits | San Francisco Music Photography

Check out Dirty Cello… a jazz, funk, blues and modern music driven band based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. I guarantee you’ve never heard anything like them, ever before. Not only do these guys gig their butts off when you see them live, but they are out there multiple times a week sharing their original brand of music with the world.

The group is lead by cellist Rebecca Roudman, who has shared the stage with countless acts, symphonies, and artists from across the globe. Jason Eckl joins her on guitar and they often bring in a host of talented Bay Area musicians to back them on bass, drums, brass, woodwinds, and vocals.

From their website: “Dirty Cello presents unique and dynamic music that mixes virtuosic classical playing with the soul of blues, the fire of gypsy music and the beauty of modern folk music. Think B.B. King meets Mark O’Connor meets Yo-Yo Ma.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself. These guys rock!

Our shoot was a nice mix of standard images for the discerning fan, and a little gettin’ gritty for the rock the house fan. All in all it was a blast to setup the seamless and rock out at the shoot!

The 12th Annual Edwardian World’s Faire | Edwardian Ball – Regency Ballroom San Francisco, CA

What a treat and what an honor it was to photograph the 12th Annual Edwardian World’s Faire through SF Station! The Edwardian World’s Faire is part of the Edwardian Ball, an event that will take you back to the turn of the century (the previous century!), and have you schmoozing and galavanting with the most well-dressed crowd you’ll ever see.   Everyone in attendance were too nice for words, and I’ll just have to let the pictures tell the story of the times we had… See you next year!

Bay Area Girls Rock Camp Band Photos | Summer 2011

Last month I took on a very exciting and rewarding personal project – photographing the 16 bands of the Bay Area Girls Rock Camp… in 8 hours.

A very musical friend of mine, Jamie Freedman, mentioned that the organizers of the BAGRC were looking for a photographer to capture portraits of the bands during their last week of camp, and I naturally jumped at the chance to work with these young talented musicians. It was a exciting and incredibly fun task of setting up 16 30-minute photo sessions over two days, and keeping the schedule on track. In the end, the 80 campers, dozens of organizers and I all had a lot of fun making these photographs come to life. Special thanks to Executive Director, Carey Faye-Horowitz, for inviting me to photograph the bands, and for graciously helping me out with scheduling and organizational logistics.

Whitney Nichole and Keeley Valentino | Pacific Northwest ‘Tour on the Edge of Glory’

Throughout the first half of July, I had the pleasure of wearing many hats on Whitney Nichole and Keely Valentino‘s aptly dubbed ‘Tour on the Edge of Glory.’ Part tour manager, part roadie, part driver, part photographer/videographer & documentarian, and altogether psyched to be on the road in the name of music for a few weeks! We covered a large swath of the Pacific Northwest, making stops in Redding, CA; Eugene, OR; Portland, OR; Tacoma, WA, Seattle, WA and Walla Walla, WA.

You can read all about our adventures on Whitney and Keeley’s blog on the edge of glory – http://whitneyandkeeley.blogspot.com/. A few images from the tour:

Whitney Nichole Performs for Google at the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA

One of those really cool experiences you don’t often get to enjoy – spending the evening at the headquarters of Google.

Whitney Nichole performed with Abigail Picache and Kevin White at the Friday afternoon social last week, and it was a treat to join in on the experience. Everything at Google is really sweet. The campus (affectionately known as the Googleplex) is beautifully situated in Mountain View, CA and it’s all it’s cracked up to be. The employees are treated to a wonderful work environment all day every day, and once a month a Friday afternoon mixer and concert! Great food, great people, and of course great music.

Thanks to Googler, Jason Shafton, for inviting Whitney to perform for everyone at TGIF in Charlie’s Cafe!

“Side Project” Photoshoot

Had a blast at an interesting photoshoot for my friend, music producer Adam Rossi and his bandmate Bob Hopkins at Adam’s studio in San Francisco. They’re working on a new and exciting undercover side project. Two cool guys making really cool music in an equally cool studio. It was pretty awesome to have their deep dark layered and developed tracks blasting in the background while we made some cool photos. One of the most fun and quirky photos I’ve made to date 🙂

I’ll be sure to get the link out to everyone once they launch the record. Rock on dudes.

The Ponticellos at 142 Throckmorton Theatre

Cello, jazz and rock, oh my! The Ponticellos are all that and more. It was a joy to attend their latest concert at 142 Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley, CA.

You may recognize cellist Rebecca Roudman from some of my earlier galleries of Whitney Nichole. Rebecca has been joining Whitney on stage for over a year now, and it was great to get out and see her perform in her new Ponticellos outfit. All of the members of the group are world class, classically trained musicians, and if you get the chance to catch one of their upcoming performances, I highly suggest it. You’ll be entertained and amazed at the breadth of repertoire from the group. Countless guests join them on stage to perform original arrangements of popular tunes.

An amazingly diverse group, The Ponticellos are all current or past members of world class orchestras, and have traveled the world sharing their music. Check out more of The Ponticellos at http://theponticellos.com/.
